Upgrade procedure for phpBB2

Submitted by on November 1, 2007 – 11:09 am 33 Comments

The following is an example procedure for upgrading phpBB2 bulletin board software running under Linux. This procedure allows to retain forum customization.

phpBB2 Logo

  1. Download “Changed files only” package from http://www.phpbb.com/downloads.php
  2. Tar cvf and gzip the entire phpBB2 installation directory on your server. This way you can alway undo any stupid mistakes you are about to fatfinger.
  3. Disable the board: login as admin -> phpBB Administration Panel -> General Admin -> Configuration -> Disable Board: Yes -> Submit. In the Administration Panel click “Preview Forum” to make sure the forum is disabled.
  4. In the Administration Panel -> General Admin -> Backup Database -> Full Backup: Gzip compress: yes. Append current timestamp to the backup file and save it in a secure location.
  5. Gunzip the “changed files only” package and untar it into the main phpBB2 installation folder. At the bottom of the Administration Panel note the current version of your existing phpBB2 installation. Extract the corresponding *.tar file.
  6. Delete all *.tar files. Chown -R wwwrun:www (or whatever userid your Apache runs under) everything in the phpBB2 folder.
  7. In your browser open http://domain.com/phpBB2_root_folder/install/update_to_latest.php to upgrade the database. Follow the instructions on the upgrade page.
  8. Delete “install” and “contrib” folders!
  9. Log in to the Administration Panel and check version information. Your installation should be up to date.
  10. Do another backup of your database (see step #4 above). Do NOT overwrite the backup file you created in step #3. Rename it instead.
  11. Re-enable the board (reverse step #3 above) and post a test message.

After having got millions of chances, Jadeja at last delivered in this series and we all know this is just temporary. I still don’t consider him to be fit to play international matches. He is a good fielder and that’s just it. He will be a big flop outside the subcontinent. He is just good if others fail.
Then, there’s this Maggie boy No-hit Sharma. What the hell has he done to get into the squad against England? Why’s this guy getting chances after chances while talents like Rahane and Tiwary are just being bench warmers?
We all know Dhoni has a special kind of bond with these two guys but is the BCCI ( I am deliberately writing BCCI here because the selection panel’s job is just to release the squad in front of the media while the players are chosen by the top bosses like Srinivasan) so WEAK as to bow in front of the captain?

BQ) Shouldn’t the top bosses in the BCCI be the former players and businessmen like Srinivasan and others just the financial and business advisers?
@Bill, Jadeja wasn’t that bad in the second match too. In a low scoring match, economy rate is what counts and he definitely stopped the runs. Besides, he made valuable runs at the lower order. Having said that, I am still not in favor of Jadeja.

I heard that several death panels have already been deployed to Haiti and that the Obama administration views this earthquake relief effort as an opportunity to put these death panels through a trial run before they begin operating in the United States. Does anyone have any additional information on this?

    LIBERALS

Was that question just as Fair as: Bush went into Iraq to Steal the oil so him and Dick Cheney could make Billions!!

Of course my Favorite: 911 was a Set-up by the Bush administration.

I would like one single Democrat say all of this is nothing but Political BS that both sides fling around.

Is there one that has the political guts to say that?

If you don’t like his administration, isn’t a better explanation that they are misguided but genuinely believe they are doing the right thing?
