iPhone: No Clicking Sound

Submitted by on July 16, 2009 – 4:58 am 17 Comments

Many long-time iPhone users are familiar with the mystery of disappearing keyboard clicking sounds (among other sound effects). Here are a few things you can try before you take your fruity phone back to the store, says the specialist of iPhone repair in San Diego:

  1. If you are a proud owner of iPhone 3G, make sure the silent switch was not engaged by accident. This tiny knob was placed by some idiot near the volume control buttons to make it more convenient for your to activate it unintentionally. The primary purpose of this silent switch is to make you miss important phone calls.

  2. Take a can of compressed air and clean the headphone jack. If this doesn’t help, plug and unplug the headphones repeatedly a few times to remove whatever may be stuck in the jack.

  3. Did your iPhone stop making sounds after you installed a new application? Uninstall it, why don’t you? Especially if this application is using the buggy “push” update feature.

  4. Reset your iPhone by going into Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset All Settings. Your contacts, notes and apps will not be harmed. The icons will be rearranged to the factory default, your ring tones will be reset, and you will have to re-enter your Wi-Fi password.

  5. If all else fails, back up your iPhone and take it to the store. Did you see the part about backing it up first? Just checking. The only bad thing about smartphones is that they are really fragile, fortunately there are experts that can repair phones and leave them brand new, if you ever need a repair contact the experts from I Fix Phones of Denver!

Hello, I found your web site when i was surfing for pages related to ringtone. I must tell you, your site is good. I like the logo too, its pleasing. I don’t have the time now to fully read your web site but I have bookmarked it and I also signed up for your RSS feed. I will return in a night or two. Thanks for a great site.

Thank goodness I found your site! After my 9 year old used my phone, my sounds disappeared. I made sure it wasn’t on silent and finally reset all the settings. Still didn’t work. NO other site made any mention of the silent button near the volume buttons. That’s what the problem was for me. Thanks and I look forward to checking out your site!

Thanks so much. I tried every trick I could find elsewhere and even upgraded the iOS trying to fix my eerily silent iPhone. Of course the problem was the silent switch which I never use and is hidden behind a rubber flap on my Defender case… I thought a dock had messed it up, but more likely I accidentally pushed the switch while wrangling the encased iPhone onto the dock. Got a lot more sleep than planned as a result.

I have an iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0 (not jailbroken). I have certain tweets coming to my phone as SMS and I usually have a different tone for those apart from my regular texts. I have made some custom tones (by downloading an app to make it and then plugging in my phone and doing the file sharing thing.) and I want to set one of those custom tones as the tone for my SMS tweets. I know I’ve done it before, but now I can’t remember how I did it. Does anybody know how to help me out?

I do not have the software for the modem, and the modem is one used through Verizon DSL. The modem acts as a wireless router as well to connect: iPhone, 2 laptops, 2 kindles and a PS3.

I can’t talk to anyone unless the speaker is on. I turn the volume up and it doesn’t make a difference. The switch on the top left is not on the red side. I can hear the phone ring, but nothing else. I can’t even hear the keyboard clicking sound. I checked the settings and everything is “on.” Help!!!

I just got another iPhone 4, but I can’t restore my backup from my old phone on it. However, I tried restoring the backup on my other iPhone and it worked. What can possibly be wrong here, please help.
